I began my tenure in the Art Department at Modesto Junior College in 1987 where I teach art history, oil painting and figure drawing. I am primarily an artist with a specialty in painting and drawing. I have been painting for over thirty years but have rarely shown my work to the public. My formal training in these areas is limited to two years at Manteca High School (1973 grad.) and a few years at Modesto Junior College working primarily under Jerry Reilly.
My academic training has been in the History of Art with a specialty in the drawing, painting and sculpture of the Italian Renaissance (I received my doctorate in 1999 from the University of California at Santa Barbara (1978-87) working under Professor Peter Meller) focusing on the works of Andrea del Verrocchio and his studio (Leonardo, Perugino, Credi etc.). I have traveled abroad extensively in search of art and have visited twenty countries. Along the way I have developed a strong interest in ancient arts, mythology, cosmology and human cognition. These areas of interest have in turn had a profound effect on my art.
